Home Remedies for Arthritis/ Joint Swelling, Aches and Pain (Part One)

India has a rich tradition of Home cures that have been used for thousand of years.

The Diet of an Arthritis patient should be such that alkalinity is produced in the blood. It should have....Potatoes/ Raw juices/ Sesame seeds/ Garlic/ Banana/ Lime/ Aĺfalfa/ Green Gram Soup/ Coconut and Mustard oil and Castor Oil.

Sea Bathing has been found valuable in Arthritis. The natural Iodine in sea water is said to relieve Arthritis pain. Iodine regulates the acid / alkaline balance in the blood and tissues. If sea bathing is not possible...Relaxing in a tub of warm water for thirty minutes in which a cup of common salt and sea salt has been mixed will greatly benefit the patient

A mixture of Quick lime and Honey as a poultice to be applied on the aching joint/ sprained tendon/ or inflamed muscle. The poultice is applied and left uncovered. Repeat it twice or thrice a day.
Turmeric and Honey is used for children and tender skin.
Turmeric and Quick lime also helps.

For Joint swellings.... A paste of turmeric, Quicklime and Garlic paste, mixed in warm mustard oil, with a few pieces of pure camphor is applied over the affected part. Onion juice in warm mustard oil is also effective. Pure Camphor in warm mustard oil is ideal for massaging when one has stiff and aching joints.

For stiffness of fingers....A large lump of rock salt is taken in the palm and kept compressed with the fingers for 5 to 10 minutes twice a day....Gradually the finger joints become supple. Do it for a couple of days. Salt being hydroscopic absorbs the fluid in the joints.
